At work tonight Hawker Beechcraft and the IAM showed their true colors. Yes, I got my 60-day warn lay-off notice. Hawker Beechcraft reneged on their original plan. Originally, they planned to continue paying us 60 days from the date of lay-off pus a severance pay of two weeks pay as a part of a severance package. The company is now saying that Nov 29 is the cut off date. From whenever we’re laid-ff (which can be anytime w/n the 60 warn notice) they will only pay up to Nov 29.So, if we work 30 days into the 60-day warn notice we’ll now only get 30 days of extended pay; not sure on the extended two weeks severance pay. As Hawker Beechcraft has reneged on this, I am having a hard time trusting them on any severance pay. There is also a performance bonus for which I should be eligible @ 11/12ths of the amount for the year I’ve been
employed; uncertain now.
I found out tonight that since the new contract, the Union has increased dues $3+ weekly. We are in a two-year wage FREEZE and the Union increases our dues in any form? What kind of Union does that? So we don't get a raise but the Union does? I also found out that the Union is supposed to take out dues from paychecks with four paydays in a month. With the 5th paycheck in a month they are to leave it alone. Such was not the case in Sept. They took out dues, blaming the new pay system, with nothing more than “we apologize for any inconvenience.” I’m going to watch weekly paycheck to see if the refrain from taking out dues one week to make up for the one they shouldn’t have.
So, we’re getting screwed all the way around from both an unscrupulous
Hawker Beechcraft company and an unscrupulous IAM Union.
This is not your typical lay-off. This down-sizing. This is the eventual closing of Plant 1. This is my job, our jobs being outsourced to Mexico by Hawker Beechcraft. I’M FUCKING MAD AS HEL!!!!!!!!!!! This is a worthless company. This is a worthless Union!
We all knew this day would come. There are no surprises here. Sure, it’s the chance we all take in aircraft. I’ve heard so many times that aircraft is the best paid temporary employment one can ever have. I compare it to my brother dieing with cancer. We all had 6 years to prepare for it, but no preparation in the world can prepare one for that final breath. Just like now; no matter how much one prepares for lay-off, taking that final breath of employment is about as tough to take as anything. I’m figuring to be laid off in a couple of weeks when others start shuffling into router shop from outside
shops. I DO need to mention that I and “the boys” all got out 60-day warn notice. All three of us will go out the door at the same time; whenever that happens. My only hope is that this lay-off will open the door for something else soon.
